Barry’s Festival of Transport is on today
Barry is again be hosting south Wales’ largest Transport Festival today – Sunday 11th June
The volunteers at The Bus Depot on Broad Street in Barry are planning to build on last year’s busy event today. Mike Taylor, the chairman of the heritage group, said: “Different heritage buses will be coming to Barry and the interest in classic and performance cars has not diminished.
“We have had a tremendous response from classic and performance car owners. Among the 300 cars expected, at least two will be 97 years old. We also have an example of the car that replaced the Ford Model T, a 92-year-old Ford Model A, one of nearly 5 million made before 1932.
“It is free entry for all the family and we will be running free frequent heritage buses from the Barry Island top area car park.. This includes a frequent shuttle bus to our Bus Depot and operate several open top.”
The Bus Depot is open to the public where there will be sales stalls and a chance to see restoration projects including the progress on the restoration of two electric trolleybuses that were nearly destroyed by a hay fire at a farm where they were stored, just prior to the Pandemic.
The Festival of Transport is centred on Barry Island and the Broad Street Bus Depot from 10am to 4.30pm. Visitors can park at the Civic Office car park off Dock View Road or get a train to Barry Island or use the Sunday bus services.
The organisers are all volunteers and funds raised during the event will be used for restoring buses.
