Double accolade for Barry primary school
STAFF and pupils at All Saints Church in Wales Primary School in Barry are celebrating after winning two national awards.
The first is being awarded ‘School of Sanctuary’ status – an honour reserved for schools that can demonstrate a whole-school commitment to being welcoming and offering safe spaces for all children. It involves rigorous assessment, including evidence of training, curriculum work, pupil leadership, and community engagement.

The judging panel praised All Saints’ “genuinely warm and inclusive atmosphere”, the vibrant displays championing equality, and – crucially – the powerful pupil voice at the heart of the work.
Mrs A Williams, who led the School of Sanctuary work, was singled out for her passion, vision, and tireless dedication. Staff and pupils alike have worked together to embed a culture of belonging, care, and mutual respect across the school.

All Saints has also secured the ‘Basics of the Young Carers in Schools Programme’ award. This acknowledges schools that go above and beyond to identify, understand, and support young carers – an often-hidden group of children who take on caring responsibilities at home.
A school spokesperson said: “The process for this award requires schools to submit a detailed portfolio demonstrating their policies, practices, and evidence of real impact on the lives of young carers. Mrs E Evans, the school’s ALNCo and Young Carers Lead, led this work with exceptional skill and commitment, earning high praise from the awarding team for her dedication and effectiveness.
“These double national accolades demonstrate what can be achieved when a whole school community comes together with compassion, commitment, and a clear vision of inclusion and equality.”
