AFTER a poor start to the season, Ely Rangers travelled to fancied Premier Division promotion candidates Llantwit Fardre and came away with a credible 1-1 draw. After going down just before half time they equalised early after the restart through new signing Ehab Hassen.
Back at Station Road Wenvoe, Rangers faced Aber Valley who had yet to win this season. Unfortunately for Rangers, Aber Valley’s winless streak ended when they came out 5-1 winners. Callun Flynn scored Rangers consolation from the penalty spot.
In the Championship, Vale United travelled to Garw to play early leaders Llangeinor and went down 2-0. Back at Corntown, they faced last season’s FAW Trophy finalists Penygraig United in a difficult encounter and lost for the second week running, this time 3-0.
Dinas Powys were in JD FAW Cup action over the Bank Holiday weekend when they defeated Croesyceiliog from the Ardal SE League 2-1. A great result for the Ravens, beating a team two tiers higher in the FAW Pyramid system! After going into the interval one down, they showed bouncebackability in the second half with two goals from Kylan Erickson. In the draw for round one, Dinas have a home draw against Afan United who play in the SWPL Premier Division.
Last weekend, Dinas were back in league action hosting undefeated Tata Steel United. After going behind in first half stoppage time, Dinas came back with two late goals from substitutes Temitope Adekunle and Rory Price to win 2-1.
In Division One, West Holton Road drew with newly-promoted Brynna 0-0. The following weekend they travelled to FC Porthcawl – another newly-promoted team – but went down 3-0.
Cogan Corries faced a difficult game at Cardiff West High School against early division leaders and high scoring Cardiff Hibs and left with the points in a 3-2 victory. Cameron Starling opened the scoring followed by two second half goals from Sam Reid and Callum Pearce. Hibs got their second in stoppage time but Corries held on for the win.
Unfortunately, their winning form didn’t continue at home to Treforest and they ended on the wrong end of a 3-1 defeat. Gavin Beddard was on Corries’ scoresheet.
Sully Sports beat FC Porthcawl 4-1 at Cardiff International Sports Stadium 3G, Leckwith, after their pitch was struggling with the hot weather. After the 4-1 victory, and with Cogan’s win, Sully went to the top of the table. Their goals came from Joe Stephens-Collins, an Andy Smith brace with Myles Jamieson coming off the bench to score Sully’s fourth.
Sully travelled west to face undefeated Margam YC and found themselves two goals down in the opening half hour before. A third goal before half time gave Sully a mountain to climb in the second half. Ethan Newman managed to get one back but Sully lost 3-1 with Margam YC taking their place as leaders.
This weekend (6 September) sees Ely Rangers in FAW Trophy action – away against holders Port Talbot Town. Vale United travel to play Newport Saints.
In league action, Dinas Powys have a tricky Friday evening game at Canal Park against Cardiff Bay Warriors.
Holton Road are home against bottom club Caerau All Whites, Sully Sports travel to play Cwm Welfare whist Cogan Corries host Margam YC.
