Poets pull together to help Tŷ Hafan

Almost 100 poets from around Wales have responded to a call to contribute to a new book designed to raise funds for Tŷ Hafan.

Where The Birds Sing Our Names – An Anthology for Tŷ Hafan has been edited by the well-known poet Tony Curtis and includes poems and lyrics in English and Welsh by a variety of contributors, including four National Poets – Gillian Clarke, Jackie Kay, Michael Longley and Gwyneth Lewis.

Also contributing are some of the best-known writers in the UK and beyond – from Max Boyce and Lord Rowan Williams to the young singer-songwriter Kizzy Crawford.

Tony Curtis told the Glamorgan Star: “I had a fantastic response when I asked people to contribute and I really would urge people to buy it. None of the contributors were paid. In fact, they won’t even get a free copy.

“Whether you buy it as a gift for a friend, or simply for yourself, it will be well worth it. It is full of great writing and all the profits from your £9.99 will go to the charity, as it is only available from Tŷ Hafan.

“I would love to see this initial print run sell out so that more can be printed and even more money can be made for Tŷ Hafan.”

Tŷ Hafan provides care and support for children with life-limiting conditions, and their families, across Wales. All proceeds from the sale of this anthology will go to the charity. No publication fees or other charges will be deducted.

Baroness Finlay of Llandaff said: “This anthology enriches the reader. It is a book to be savoured and enjoyed. The celebration of each wonderful moment from conception through a toddler’s first steps and all the family dynamics of life: the simplest of encounters, of depth and beauty.”

Where The Birds Sing Our Names is available directly from Tŷ Hafan Shop online or in their shops in Barry, Penarth, Cowbridge and Porthcawl.
