Charity walk is a fitting way to remember Sharon

Readers of the Glamorgan Star will remember that last year, our reporter Sharon Harris died suddenly.

Her death came as a huge shock to her family, friends and work colleagues and this week, her sister Julie Williams has been paying a personal tribute – by tackling a charity challenge walking around all five Scilly Islands.

As we went to press, Julie had just passed her £1,000 target, but also suffering with blisters and from the hot weather.

Julie said: “Losing Sharon last October so suddenly and unexpectedly hit both my father, myself and those who knew her so hard. I wanted to do something positive to celebrate her memory and create a lasting legacy to remember her by.

“Walking the five Isles of Scilly has given me the opportunity to remember her, it’s an incredibly beautiful part of the country and given how Sharon loved her travels, it’s somewhere I know that she would have loved.

“I feel really proud to be doing this fundraiser to honour her memory and three amazing charities will benefit, namely Hospice of the Valleys, the British Heart Foundation and the Brain Tumour Charity whom Sharon had actively fundraised for herself. I am so grateful to the Glamorgan Star for their continued support and for also sponsoring my T-shirt.”

One consolation for Julie’s blisters is the wonderful scenery.

    1. Thank You Des it was very emotional doing the walk, Sharon was never far away from my thoughts. I think she would be delighted with the money raised so far.
