BARRY snooker player Alfie Davies maintained his season-long unbeaten run in the Welsh Amateur series by defeating Matthew Roberts 3-0 to win event two at Cue Snooker Club in Aberdare.
Davies, who turned 25 earlier this month, ended last season by winning the Welsh Amateur Championship, having finished runner-up for the previous two years, and while his attempts to earn a place on the professional tour have been frustrated, he has maintained his excellent form in Welsh domestic snooker.
In September, Davies made a strong start to the new domestic season by completing a 3-0 whitewash over former Barry resident Sam Thomas to win Welsh Amateur event one in Carmarthen.
At event two last weekend, Davies made a break of 103 to complete a 3-0 victory over Jonathan Steggles in the opening round, and he followed it up with further 3-0 wins over Bradley Tyson and Jon Breeze.
Davies faced his toughest test in the quarter-finals, where he took a decider to beat former world number eight Darren Morgan 3-2.
Davies then came through a 3-1 winner against 26-year-old Taylor Morgan, before clinching the title with a whitewash over Roberts.
Davies is currently at Q Tour Europe event four at the Northern Snooker Centre, Leeds, which features 139 leading players without professional tour status. Q Tour Europe consists of seven tournaments played at venues throughout Britain and the continent between August and September.
Whoever finishes top of the Order of Merit will receive a coveted two-year professional tour card, while the next 16 players will go to an end-of-season play-off featuring players from Q Tour Europe and the equivalent series in Asia, where a further three tour cards will be up for grabs.
