Barry choir’s first home concert in three years

Barry Male Voice Choir (BMVC) is celebrating 120 years of song with a concert on Saturday 25th June in Whitmore High School, Port Road, Barry.
This will be the first public event in the new state of the art performance space in Whitmore and the choir is very much looking forward to catching up with the lost years of song due to Covid. Joining BMVC in the concert will be the award-winning South Notts Men’s Chorus who have been waiting to sing with the Boys in Blue for 3 years following two postponed events.
South Notts and BMVC first sang together in 2016 at the Royal Albert Hall and since then met up in Cornwall and more recently online. Chairman Martyn Todd said: “Barry Male Voice is both celebrating its 120 years of song and looking to the future by holding its flagship event in Whitmore High School. A new concert space for a new era of the choir. The best is yet to come.”
A total of 13 new members have joined BMVC since 2020 and hopes are high to gain more with an open rehearsal on Thursday 11th August 7.30pm, in Holy Trinity Church, Barry.
BMVC visited Tenby in April, giving concerts in Narberth to support Swim Narberth, and in St Davids Cathedral in aid of Ukraine. Over £1,000 was raised for charity, a few glasses were raised in friendship and many songs were sung for the sheer joy of singing.
