BARRY RFC’s Youth team were in celebratory mood on Saturday, enjoying an end-of-season social and trophy presentation following their success in taking the Cardiff Region Division Two title.

Club chairman Mike Prosser praised the effort and commitment of coaches Peter O’Sullivan, James Hadfield and Rhodri Thomas, and the players for all their effort and hard work during the season.

“The Youth team has seen a huge amount of growth from the start of the season to the end, losing just one league game in 2026,” said head coach O’Sullivan. “After a slightly turbulent start to the season, everyone has worked hard for each other.”

He thanked his fellow coaches and players, and all the parents and helpers for their support, with special mentions for team manager Zoe O’Sullivan for her organisation off the pitch, and captain and vice-captain Rhys Berhens and Isaac Thomas for their leadership on it.

“We’ve been well supported by the club as a whole and the lads have ended up getting what they deserve. We look forward to welcoming this season’s under-16s into the Youth team next season, and can’t wait to see a number of the departing 18-year-olds playing for the seniors next season.”

Eleven of the current Youth squad will move up into senior rugby next season.

Barry’s under-14 team are in action at the Arms Park on Saturday morning when they take on St Peter’s in the final of the Cardiff Rugby Under-14 Bowl. The match, originally scheduled for Friday, has been moved to Saturday, 9th May, kicking off at 10am.

The team entertained a touring side from Hampstead RFC at the weekend, winning 31-19, battling back in positive style after a slow start handed the early initiative to the visitors.

Barry’s under-15s also welcomed a touring team, New Ross from County Wexford, who had travelled from Ireland on the day. The tourists were beaten 60-5.

Barry hosts an under-13s festival on Sunday, 10th May, starting at 10am, with teams playing each other during the course of the day  More than 50 players will be taking part, but there is still time for other interested clubs to join the action. To register email
