School PTA raises £4,000 as the circus comes to town

'It was the best night of their life!'

AN enterprising PTA at a Vale primary school has raised over £4,000 for the school by helping the circus come to town!

St Illtyd Primary School in Llantwit Major recently opened its gates to the public for its first circus event. The Happy’s Circus team arrived in the morning to cheers from children in the playground, and set up the yellow and red big top tent in only a few hours.

After the gates opened to the public at 4pm, there were fairground rides, a bouncy castle, a megaslide, food and drink stalls, and circus merchandise to entertain guests in the run-up to show at 6pm. The PTA ran stalls such as a raffle, bottle tombola, and face painting.

PTA member Sophie Moinon said: “Tickets for the show sold out before the event, so once the 600 guests had been shown into the big top, the show kicked off with amazing aerial acrobatics, comedy clowns, the weird and wonderful Mr Slinky and even a roller skating spin duo!

“The circus were sleek, professional and hilarious. The evening was a sell out success and, with the help of local business sponsorship, it raised over £4,000 for the school PTA, which will use the funds to enrich and entertain the school experience for the children at the school. One parent was even heard to say it was the best night of their life!”
