THE team at Cowbridge RFC have been training for the start of the 25/26 season, making use of the new gym facility.
On 27 August, they played a pre-season game against Llanharan – a tough encounter losing 33-10 against a very big pack but lots of positives. And the fixture list does look exciting and testing.
The season starts on 13 September with a great opener at home against Cardiff Quins, who Cowbridge just pipped to third place in the league last season. Then, on 20 September it will be away to Rhiwbina, down from Division One, with the month ending with Taffs Well at home on 27 September. Into October, Cowbridge travel to Pentrych (4 October) and then on 11 October we entertain newly-promoted Clwb Rygbi Cardiff at home. So lots to look forward to.
Club members, indeed the town, were saddened to hear of the death of Reta Thomas (Sorrento). The Thomas family, headed by David and Reta, are a long established and well known Cowbridge family with strong connections to the Athletic Club in rugby and cricket. We extend our sympathy to all the family at this sad time.
There was sad news also when coach driver Keith Beverstock died following a collision at the interchange at Jct 33. Keith drove the players on a number of occasions, most recently he drove on the club tour to Weston Super Mare. He was always affable and patient. Again, we extend our sympathies to his family
