Day of the Dinosaur at All Saints

THE year-1 children at All Saints C/W Primary School in Barry had the most extraordinary afternoon recently as they experienced an exciting and educational dinosaur workshop, hosted by Ranger Chris from Dinomania.

The workshop was a carefully crafted immersive experience designed to captivate young imaginations and inspire a fascination for palaeontology. The children were treated to a variety of engaging activities that brought the prehistoric world to life.

The session kicked off with an exciting introduction video, which set the scene for the dinosaur adventure ahead. This was followed by the highly interactive ‘Guess the Dinosaur’ game, where the children used their critical thinking skills to identify various species. The fun continued with a magical live Dinosaur Egg Hatch, delighting the children as they witnessed the arrival of an adorable baby dinosaur.

“The look on their faces when the egg hatched was priceless,” said Mrs Webb, year-1 teacher. “They were absolutely mesmerised by the whole experience. It was a fantastic way to bring their learning to life and really sparked their curiosity about dinosaurs.”

The highlight of the afternoon came when the children had the chance to meet two baby dinosaurs, giving them the rare opportunity for hands-on interaction with them. But the real showstopper was Ronnie, a four-metre-tall walking dinosaur who made a grand entrance, roaming the hall with impressive realism. The children were absolutely captivated by Ronnie’s lifelike movements and towering presence.

“The children were in awe of Ronnie,” said Mrs. Webb. “They couldn’t believe how real it looked, and many were eager to ask Ranger Chris all about the giant dinosaur. It was such an incredible experience, and I know it will stay with them for a long time.”

In addition to the interactive sessions, the children were introduced to the extinction lesson, where they explored the fascinating mystery of how dinosaurs disappeared from Earth, using engaging visuals and videos to bring the topic to life.

Ranger Chris also shared a collection of real fossils for the children to see and touch, offering a tangible connection to the ancient past and giving them the chance to explore the world of palaeontology up close.

“It was an afternoon they will never forget,” added Mrs Webb. “The children were not only engaged throughout but also left with a deeper understanding of dinosaurs, extinction, and the exciting world of fossils. It was the perfect mix of education and fun.”
