Former pupil gives a love of books back to her old school
Jannat Ahmed published Miracles through her own publishing company.
PUPILS at Gladstone Primary were delighted recently when a former pupil returned to the school to present them with copies of a book designed to inspire a love of poetry.
The book was Miracles by Connor Allen, who was the Children’s Laureate for Wales, 2021 to 2023, and the former pupil is Jannat Ahmed, who has proudly published Miracles through her own publishing company, Lucent Dreaming.

Jannat Ahmed, 29, from Barry created Lucent Dreaming in 2021 as a publishing company for new and emerging writers. It is establishing a reputation for a variety of stories – often in the young adult category. Lucent Dreaming’s books have been praised for their cover designs – a result of Jannat’s desire to work with local artists.
Jannat was a pupil in Gladstone Primary between the years of 1999-2006. She says she gained a lot of her confidence from the teaching at Gladstone Primary and her time at the school really shaped her.
She said: “Gladstone really shaped what I became because they fostered my creative side. I’m grateful to Miss Jones and Miss Jenkins who encouraged me to read and write a lot. They helped fuel a fire that’s still alive in me today.”
She explained that she had a dream of writing from an early age, from telling her younger sisters bedtime stories to sending a ‘magazine’ to family friends through email.

Lucent Dreaming was a finalist in the culture category of the St David Awards in 2023. The St David Awards recognise and celebrate the exceptional achievements of people from all walks of life in Wales and abroad.
