Nature reserve hosts Sea Eagle art exhibition

A DRAMATIC large painting by wildlife and landscape artist Rob Davies is featuring in an art exhibition at Kenfig Nature Reserve.

The painting aims to raise awareness of the Eagle Reintroduction Wales (ERW) Programme. The ‘Echoes of the Eagle’ exhibition, hosted in partnership with ERW, Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, Kenfig NNR and Art of the Fairytale celebrates 50 years of successful White-tailed Sea Eagle conservation in the UK, and tells the story of Wales’s missing eagles.

A lifelong conservationist, Rob Davies grew up in Wales where he developed a passion for wildlife, especially birds of prey. He studied zoology at Exeter University and moved to South Africa in 1982 to work as a research ecologist. He returned to Wales in 2001.

The Echoes of the Eagle Art Exhibition is on display at Kenfig Nature Reserve’s visitor centre until 17th September. The opening hours are 9am to 4.30pm, Tuesday to Saturday.

Rob Davies said: “My large Sea Eagle painting (acrylic on canvas, 120cm x 120cm) will enter into a sealed bid auction lasting the summer holidays alongside three smaller plein air works (oil on canvas, 33 cm x 43 cm), showing the habitats with eagles in two of them. I painted these on location at Kenfig.

“I intend to donate 75% of the money raised on the big paintings to Eagle Reintroduction Wales and 50% of the money raised on the smaller paintings to be split equally between ERW and Kenfig Nature Reserve.”

If you cannot get to Kenfig and want to place your bid before it closes on 18th September, email
