No rings on Nessa as ‘Neil the baby’ is snapped hugging his mum
AS filming continues for the finale of Gavin & Stacey, Nessa and Smithy’s son was spotted hugging his on-screen mum, played by Ruth Jones minus any sign of engagement and wedding rings.
Ruth Jones and James Corden, who co-wrote the BBC hit series, and fellow cast members were seen filming outside Gwen’s house on Trinity Street last week when they were joined by actor Oscar Hartland who played ‘Neil the baby’ in previous episodes.

Neil, who was born in 2008 following a one-night affair between Nessa and Smithy, is now 15 years old. He looks completely different from the little 10-year-old youngster who made his previous appearance in 2019 as he arrived as a passenger in Smithy’s iconic blue Volvo car bearing the words ‘If your husband won’t do it – I will’.

Hugging in-character as Nessa, there was certainly no signs of an engagement or marriage ring on Ruth’s finger. In a major cliffhanger at the end of the last episode, aired on Christmas Day 2019, Nessa finally expressed her true feelings towards Smithy (James Corden) by getting down on one knee and proposing. Ever since, viewers and fans have been left wondering and speculating over his response.

Earlier this week the cast of Gavin & Stacey were also seen looking all glammed up as they prepared at a secret location to film wedding scenes – with James Corden looking all dressed up in a 3-piece blue suit with a white rose lapel.
In between scenes Joanna Page (Stacey Shipman), Matthew Horne (Gavin Shipman), Rob Brydon (Uncle Bryn), Alison Steadman (Pam Shipman), Melanie Walters (Gwen West), Julia Davis (Dawn Sutcliffe) and Adrian Scarborough (Pete Sutcliffe) could all be seen. However, Ruth Jones (Nessa) was noticeable by her absence.
Does a Nessa and Smithy wedding go to plan, does Smithy marry someone completely different, or do Gavin and Stacey simply renew their vows? Guess we’ll all just have to wait and hold our breath until Christmas.
