Viewing the partial eclipse from the Vale

Fortunately, Tuesday was a clear night over Cowbridge – and it was still clear at 3.45am on Wednesday.

That meant it was well worth setting the alarm and that is what Alan Thomas, who lives in Cowbridge, decided to do.

The result was this dramatic shot of the partial eclipse of the moon!

A lunar eclipse occurs when the moon’s face is shadowed by the earth blocking the moon’s light from the sun.

A partial lunar eclipse occurs when a little portion of the moon is obscured by a shadow.
