Sport – Airport Reserves blitz Penarth to clinch title

Cardiff Airport Reserves clinched the Vale Premier Division on the final day with an unbelievable 14-0 demolition of Penarth Town.

The title race had gone right to the wire with Airport, St Athan and Barry Athletic all in the mix. Airport’s victory saw them claim the title by one point. Barry Athletic’s loss 3-1 to Island Marine handed St Athan second place and a SWFA promotion play off spot.

Elsewhere in the Premier Division Tynewydd warmed up for Sunday’s Barry Cup Final with a 6-3 win over Vale Athletic.

In the Championship, Champions Vale Madrid completed an unbeaten league season as they edged Rhoose Social 3-2. Barry Athletic Reserves saw off AFC Rhoose Development 5-2 thanks to a Toby Gent hat trick. Cogan Coronation Reserves held Cardiff Airport Vets 2-2.

In League One, Dinas Powys Development beat their title rivals Porthkerry Panthers 3-0 and followed it by lifting the league one title. Aaron Williams scored the winner for Ely Rangers Wenvoe as they defeated Holton Road Reserves 3-2.

This weekend sees Ely Rangers Wenvoe play Porthkerry Panthers in the Goodwood Cup Final on Saturday, and Tynewydd face Cwm Talwg in the Barry Cup on Sunday, both games at Jenner Park 2pm.
