BARRY RFC’s home Admiral National League Division One East Central match against table-topping Aberdare was called off on Saturday morning (6th April) after an inspection of the Reservoir Field pitch ruled it unplayable following several days of rain.
The pitch has suffered from waterlogging since November, with a number of fixtures being moved to the 4G pitch at Ysgol Bro Morgannwg. The Reservoir Field pitch had recovered sufficiently for the home fixture against Ynysbwl on 9th March, which Barry won 25-8, but deteriorated again last week.
Barry have five fixtures outstanding, all at home, and are due to host bottom of the table Rhiwbina on Wednesday, 10th April, when a victory for the Bombers would see them safe, with Rhiwbina or Ynysybwl going down. On Saturday, 13th March, Abercwmboi are the visitors. The venue for both games has yet to be decided.
*Barry’s Youth team are in Cardiff Rugby National Premiership action on Saturday when they travel to Builth Wells, with head coach John Dimond set to include some of the club’s under-16s in the squad. After that, the young Bombers have one match left, against Rhiwbina, the home fixture having been called off in February. A new date has yet to be arranged.
*Barry’s Ruben Cummings, who now plays for Hartpury and Gloucester, was on the bench for Wales in their opening under-18 Six Nations Festival match against England in Parma, Wales suffering a late 36-35 defeat.
Hooker Ruben was in the starting line-up for the 35-10 midweek victory against Portugal, but on the bench for the match against France on Sunday, which Wales lost 43-33.
