THE final month of the football season approaches and, as previously reported, Premier Division Ely Rangers have finished 11th and will be waiting on results in the Ardal West.
Should Taffs Well escape the bottom two places, it will save Rangers from relegation to the Championship. Taffs Well don’t complete their season until Friday, 22nd May and no doubt everything will go to the wire.
In the Championship, there’s a huge Vale derby at Corntown on 2nd May. Already relegated Vale United Stags won their penultimate game against Bettws 3-0 with goals from Connor James, Henry Adams and Jason James. This leads them into their final game against Dinas Powys. The Ravens beat Cardiff Comos 3-1 with a hat-trick from Temitope Adekunle – who takes his tally to 11 for the season. The Stags Jason James has 10 so far.
However, this means the Ravens need a point at Corntown to win the Championship. However, in their three previous head to head games, the Stags are on top with one win and two draws! It’s going to be a great final game.
In Division One, West Cogan Corries have had a win and two 1-1 draws recently. First up were Grange Albion and a 5-1 victory. Goalscorers were Jamie Harris and a brace each from Jac Jones and Cameron Starling. The draws came against FC Porthcawl – Dan Hooper was the Corries scorer – and a credible draw against leaders Margam YC with again Dan Hooper on the score sheet. Three games left for Corries means they could end up a creditable third place!
Holton Road’s relegation fate was sealed long ago and two more defeats against Brynna (10-0) and Fairwater (7-1) means their season is almost over. Zac Hunter was their scorer at Fairwater. Holton’s final game is away to Grange Albion on Saturday.
