A PENARTH resident has advised visitors to Vale of Glamorgan beaches to be aware of the dangers after witnessing a rock fall.
The incident happened around 7.30pm on Saturday 17th July.
Christopher Davies said: “My girlfriend and I had taken a walk and decided to visit that beach to get out of the sun for a bit.
“We hadn’t long sat down on the first breakwater – closest to the Custom House/Barrage car park – when the sound appeared behind us.
“As we turned, we could see rocks from a section of the cliff coming down the cliff face and I managed to get a photo as the dust kicked up.
“A couple had literally walked under that area a few seconds before and were sat further up the same breakwater.
“Everyone was fine, but it isn’t always a few small rocks and a bit of dust.”
He added: “I think everyone should just be more aware of their surroundings when visiting these places.
“I am not sure what the council specifically could do other than encouraging people to traverse the beach further away from the cliff face.
“In grander terms coastal erosion and climate change are the biggest contributors and while everyone can do their part I think that it may be outside of the council’s remit.”

The Vale of Glamorgan Council, Coastguard, RNLI and other agencies advise people to keep clear of cliff faces when visiting the county’s beaches as rock falls can happen right along the coastline.
