BARRY will once again host south Wales’ largest Transport Festival next weekend as volunteers at The Bus Depot on Broad Street look forward to welcoming visitors on Sunday, 9th June.
Tudor Thomas, speaking on behalf of the heritage vehicle group, said: “Barry will again play host to heritage buses visiting Barry on the day whist the classic cars section will be slightly different.
“In past years we have had well over 300 classic and performance cars but this year there will be less space available on Barry Island, so we have put a cap on numbers. We have also asked the South Wales Classic Car Club to manage the layout.
“Our free heritage bus services will continue and some visiting buses and our own collection in Barry will be used, especially the open top buses. Amongst the heritage buses on show will be the 51-year-old 1973 Merthyr Tydfil bus – restored and back on the road in May this year.
“The Bus Depot will be open to the public where there will be sales stalls and a chance to see our restoration projects, including the progress on the restoration of our Second World War Pontypridd bus. The Festival of Transport will be centred on Barry Island and the Broad Street Bus Depot on Sunday, 9 June, 10am to 4.30pm. Visitors from afar can park at the Dock Offices Interchange Park and Ride or get a train to Barry Station, as we will be operating a free shuttle bus.”
The organisers are all volunteers, whilst funds and donations raised during the event will be used for restoring former local Welsh buses.
