Westbourne School sixth form pupils celebrate exam results
'International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is renowned across the world'
Westbourne School sixth form students are celebrating after receiving a sweep of excellent results in their International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma exams, securing them entry into some of the country’s most outstanding universities.
Pupils receiving stand out scores in their exams were Aleksandra Warda and Rochelle Lok who each achieved exceptional scores of 41 points (approximately equivalent to 4-5 A*s at A Level. Aleksandra will progress to the London School of Economics (LSE) to study politics and philosophy, and Rochelle will read architecture at the University of Edinburgh.
Inspired by a passion for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), Jakub Zeman is also making the move to London to study economics and management at King’s College.
Emilia Bacior will read international business, finance and economics at the University of Manchester.
Dardi Peka is headed to Queen Mary University of London to study aerospace engineering.
Other students from the Penarth school have received the results required to study at American universities, including Oracene Mbiake Toko, who will read law, Olufemi Fajobi, who will study neuroscience on the pre-medical track at Temple University on a scholarship, and Munachimso Ubah, who will go to American medical school.
Principal, Dr G. Griffiths, said of the IB results: “The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is renowned across the world for producing globally-minded young people who have the attributes to become the leaders of the future.
“Unlike A Levels, which focus purely on academic skills, the IB is the gold standard in academia but also teaches broader life skills and those competencies required to be a confident all-rounder. It’s this that holds huge appeal for university admissions teams not just here in the UK but globally.”
