Male Voice Choir will sing music traditionally heard during a Plygain

The Christingles will be performing festive favourites

A NEWLY-FORMED musical ensemble consisting of the family and friends of Barry Male Voice Choir members will be among those taking part in a Christmas concert to raise money for Tŷ Hafan at St Helen’s RC Church on Saturday 9th December.

The concert, titled Peace on Earth, begins at 2:30pm and features musical performances from the Vale of Glamorgan Brass Band and Barry Male Voice Choir.

The congregation will also be treated to music from a new ‘scratch’ choir called The Christingles, which consists of men and women of all ages who are either family or friends of Barry Male Voice Choir members. The Christingles will be performing festive favourites during the concert.

Barry Male Voice Choir will be singing music that would be heard during a Plygain, a traditional Welsh Christmas service that takes place in a church between 3am and 6am on Christmas morning.

| Local children have been rehearsing for the concert.

The choir musical director Dot Connell says the concert will be a traditional celebration of Christmas combined with some fun elements: “Barry Male Voice Choir have a busy schedule in the run-up to Christmas, and this concert is a real highlight in terms of the way it blends well-known Christmas carols and some music people may be less familiar with, but that we’re sure they’ll appreciate.

“We’ve had a lot of fun bringing The Christingles together, and it’s great to see children getting involved. I’m grateful to Tŷ Hafan for the support and encouragement they’ve given us, and we look forward to welcoming as many people as possible to St Helen’s for an afternoon of beautiful music while raising money to help the charity with the tremendous work that they do to help sick children and their families,” she said.

Admission costs £8 for adults, but under 16s are free. There will also be a bucket collection for Tŷ Hafan.
