THERE were smiling faces on Barry Island promenade as the sun shone down on the recent tenth Welsh language annual Gŵyl Fach y Fro event.
A large crowd attended the free mini festival that was held entirely in Cymraeg on Saturday, 17th May, and billed as a celebration of the Welsh language and culture.
With a backdrop over Barry Island beach and Whitmore Bay, music lovers enjoyed performances from Bwncath, Gai Toms, Tara Bandito, Dadleoli, and Taran who brought with them an eclectic mix of Welsh music to the seaside stage.
Local schools and choirs showcased their talents in front of a large gathering of spectators both on the main stage and the nearby bandstand.
Furthermore, Gŵyl Fach y Fro showcased activities and workshops for children, popular craft stalls for show goers and food and drink for all.
Organised by Menter Bro Morgannwg, this year’s festival was sponsored by Barry Town Council with further support for the festival’s arts projects coming from Vale Council, the National Lottery, Wales Arts Council, and the Welsh Government.
In one of his first duties as the new Mayor of Barry for 2025/26, Cllr Dennis Clarke opened the stage for young people, Glanfa Gwynfor.
