In a welcome relief to the cost-of-living crisis, over 35,000 people throughout the Vale of Glamorgan will be better off this week as councils throughout the country begin distributing £150 to eligible Council Tax payers.
The Council Tax Rebate scheme, with no requirement to be repaid, was announced by the UK Government in February, and later confirmed by the devolved Welsh Government.
The rebate will go to occupied households in council tax bands A to D, as well as those in receipt of a Council Tax reduction. Households in Band E and above are not eligible for the one-off award.
Eligible households who pay Council Tax by direct debit will receive the payment directly into their bank account. Those that don’t will receive a letter with details on how to claim the Cost of Living Support payment.
All residents can check their council tax band and whether or not they are currently in receipt of support via the Council Tax Reduction Scheme by checking their most recent Council Tax statement, issued in March 2022.
