VALE Councillors, volunteers from Wick Youth Club and Food Vale have opened a food hub at the Sports Pavilion in Wick in the Vale of Glamorgan.
No referrals are needed; residents just need to bring a shopping bag and fill it with a selection of store cupboard essentials and locally grown seasonal vegetables on a ‘pay what you can afford’ basis. As well as the food hub, there is a warm welcome for all, with hot drinks, snacks and a chat on offer.
The Wick Food Hub was held on Saturday, 9th March from 10am to midday, with donations of non-perishable foods, toiletries, etc, dropped off at Wick and Marcross Church of Wales School, The Star Inn, Wick Youth Club or at the Pavilion on the day of the event.
Louise Denham, a Food Vale co-ordinator, said: “It’s a really difficult time for a lot of people, but there is some amazing work happening at the community level to make sure people are able to get food that supports their health and wellbeing. Food Vale seeks to connect projects like these across the Vale so that together we can build a better food system to meet everyone’s needs.”
