Statement from Buckingham Palace:
The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.
The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.

The new King releases a statement
A statement has just been issued by the Royal Family on behalf of Charles, the new King.
He writes: “The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family.
“We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished sovereign and a much-loved mother.
“I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth and by countless people around the world.
“During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which the Queen was so widely held.”

New King will be known as Charles III
The new King will officially be known as King Charles III, it has been officially confirmed.

Statement from the UK Prime Minister, Liz Truss:
“Today the Crown passes, as it has done for more than a thousand years, to our new monarch, our new head of state, His Majesty King Charles III.
“With the King’s family we mourn the loss of his mother and come together.
“We offer him our loyalty and devotion, just as his mother devoted so much to us for so long.”
She finishes her statement saying it is “the passing of the second Elizabethan age”.
Truss concludes by saying: “God save the King.”

Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan Cllr Susan Lloyd Selby:
Following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II Cllr Susan Lloyd Selby, Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan, has issued the following statement.
“It is with great sadness that the Vale of Glamorgan Council is today marking the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. We give thanks for her Majesty’s life of service.
“All flags at the Civic Offices in Barry are being flown at half-mast.
“Books of condolence have been opened to the public at the Civic and Dock Offices in Barry, and the Alps Depot in Wenvoe. These will be open from 9am until 5pm, Monday to Friday and closed at 4pm on the day following the funeral.
“An online book of condolence is available on the Council’s website.
“Books of condolence are also available at the four town council offices in Barry, Cowbridge, Llantwit Major and Penarth.
“All civic engagements due to take place in the coming days have also been cancelled as a mark of respect.”
