King Charles III has addressed the nation

William to be new Prince of Wales:

King Charles III has addressed the nation this evening from Buckingham Palace after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

During the televised event watched by millions from within the country and around the world, King Charles said that he was creating his son William Prince of Wales.

“With Catherine beside him, our new Prince and Princess of Wales will, I know, continue to inspire and lead our national conversations, helping to bring the marginal to the centre ground where vital help can be given.”

The new King also renewed his mother’s lifelong promise of service.

King Charles and Camilla, the Queen Consort, earlier greeted large crowds outside the palace. He could be seen speaking and shaking hands with well wishes as he walked the full length of of the front of Buckingham Palace.

People have been leaving flowers and tributes to the Queen, while ceremonial 96 gun salutes have rung out around the UK, including the Welsh capital.

Earlier this afternoon, the new King held his first audience with the new Prime Minister Liz Truss within Buckingham Palace.

Aged 96, The Queen died peacefully on Thursday at Balmoral Castle, Scotland.
