IT is great to be given the opportunity to highlight our school in this edition of the Glamorgan Star.
St Illtyd is a nursery to year-6, two form entry, school that currently has 350 children. We pride ourselves on our inclusive ethos, with our main focus being on the children’s wellbeing. Our staff have had training with Trauma Informed Schools and we have a full time wellbeing mentor.
Our school council and other pupil committees meet regularly to help shape the school’s vision and the children have an input into the curriculum itself, identifying what they would like to learn and how.
The school was recently awarded the NQA for Healthy schools, recognising our commitment to healthy living and only one of a small number of schools in the Vale to achieve this.
We offer a varied curriculum that makes full use of our extensive grounds. Our curriculum development is firmly focussed on the Curriculum for Wales that becomes statutory from September 2022 and this year we are planning the children’s learning through an inquiry-based approach to develop the knowledge, skills and experiences they need to become capable, creative, informed and confident individuals.
We have space across a few year groups and are open during term times for visits from prospective parents.
