During the brief hearing on 6th May, Cardiff Crown Court heard Williams was alleged to have “unlawfully and maliciously caused grievous bodily harm” to Mr Dandridge.

Williams pleaded not guilty to charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and causing grievous bodily harm.

Leah Pollard, representing Williams, said she accepts Mr Dandridge had fallen, but disputes that the injuries were caused that night.

Prosecutor Byron Broadstock said Williams’ pleas were “not acceptable” and that the Crown was seeking a trial.

Williams was released on bail with the condition that he does not contact Mr Dandridge. The Recorder of Cardiff, Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke, set a trial date for 3rd March 2026.

Williams has more than 1,200 career winners to his name and has been the highest-ranking Welsh trainer in the British Jump Trainers’ Championship for the last 11 seasons in a row.  Last year, he occupied 26th place in the standings with 51 winners and more than £600,000 in prize money.

Williams had horses placed in five consecutive Grand Nationals between 2009 and 2013, and another of his horses, Secret Reprieve, won the 2020 Welsh Grand National in Chepstow.
