YOU can’t say we don’t care about staff wellbeing here on the Glamorgan Star.
Our own Wendy Snatchfold was given the day off to recover from her first attempt at the London Marathon held on Sunday, 27th April.
And it wasn’t easy for Wendy. As it was her first marathon, she was one of the late starters and instead of the elite runners who started in the cool of the morning and were finished well before noon, she only crossed the start line at 11.17am.
This meant she had to run the 26 miles (and 385 yards) in the heat of the day. While the rest of the country basked in the Mediterranean heat, the runners had no choice but to hang in there and drink plenty of fluids.
In the circumstances, Wendy was delighted to break the six-hour mark with a time of 5 hours, 57 minutes.
She said: “I ran to support Blood Bikes Wales, a remarkable charity powered entirely by volunteers. They support the NHS, delivering lifesaving essentials like blood, donor breast milk, sepsis tests, and more between hospitals. Their behind-the-scenes work impacts so many lives, often without us even realising it.
“My aim was to raise £1,500, so I am delighted to have passed the £3,000 mark!”
She has set up a JustGiving page which can be reached via bit.ly/4iJMYC
