‘Art from the attic’ raises more than £1,000

AS described in the 1st June edition of the Glamorgan Star, a local artist and retired medic, Dr Sue Dickson, of Llantwit Major, decided to clear out her attic studio and sell a lifetime’s worth of her paintings to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Her daughter-in-law has this serious disease, and the family have been supported by the association through some very difficult times.
The Mayor of Llantwit Major, Cllr David Powell, not only opened the sale / exhibition on 3/4 June at CF61 Community Centre, but also assisted with transport and setting up. Sue said: “This was well beyond the call of his mayoral duty!”
She continues: “We had lots of visitors throughout the weekend, and many came in response to the article in the Glamorgan Star. It was lovely to chat to friends old and new. We sold a large number of my paintings, and the final tally, including some very generous donations, was more than £1,100.
“I was overwhelmed at the response, especially as several people have commissioned pet portraits and paintings of local scenes, including the Nash Point lighthouse which formed the centrepiece of my show. I shall be carrying out these commissions to carry on fundraising for motor neurone disease research and care.”
Sue and Peter Dickson would like to thank the Chatty Café volunteers who helped out with refreshments, and also provided some customers for the sale! Also, thanks to the Glamorgan Star and to Llantwit Major Town Council for publicity, and to the many friends who helped make the show a success. Special thanks go to Llinos Thomas, of Glamorgan Voluntary Services, for arranging the use of the excellent facilities at CF61.
