A WOMAN from Penarth has been jailed at Cardiff Crown Court after leaving the scene of a collision in August 2022 that left a cyclist with serious injuries and later needing to have his leg amputated.

Savannah Roberts, 27, was driving a Ford Fiesta during the early hours of Friday 5th August 2022 when she collided with a cyclist on Penarth Road, Cardiff, knocking the rider off his bicycle and causing serious injuries, Roberts stopped and return to the victim but then drove off leaving the victim lying on the roadside asking for help.
A South Wales Police spokesperson said: “The victim was taken to University Hospital of Wales and was then transferred to Morriston hospital in Swansea where unfortunately he had to have a leg amputated.
“After the accident Roberts sold the car to try and hide any link to her and the accident, however after extensive CCTV, forensic work and other enquiries by officers, the car was linked to Roberts and she was arrested, after being seen to be driving through a red light.
“During interview she replied “No comment” to all questions. Roberts from Penarth was jailed for three years and nine months for causing serious injury by careless driving and perverting the cause of justice at Cardiff Crown Court on Thursday September 5, 2024.”
