THIS past weekend saw the start of the historic Barry Cup as it enters its 105th year.
FC Barry 1-1 Llantwit Major 3rd (FC Barry win 4-2 on pens) – FC Barry edged through on penalties after a tightly contested draw. FC Barry’s Joe Allwood scored at both ends but it was the home side who went through on penalty kicks.
St Athan 10 – 1 Cowbridge Town AFC – A dominant display from St Athan saw them run riot with a double-digit scoreline, the biggest win of the round. Goals from Sean Nash, Kieran Ashton, Chris Vinson, Max Morgan, Cam West, Brad Young and Dewi Cain saw St Athan romp to a derby win
Cogan Coronation AFC Reserves 3 – 0 Sully Sports FC Development – In another derby encounter, Cogan Coronation Reserves took the bragging right and went safely through thanks to goals from Kellan Allison and David Cozma.
AFC Rhoose 4 – 1 Ely Rangers FC Reserves Wenvoe – AFC Rhoose looked sharp in attack as they cruised to a solid 4–1 victory, captain Kyle Lewis hit a hat trick as Rhoose advance.
Vale of Glamorgan Rovers 0 – 7 Barry Athletic – Barry Athletic were ruthless against the league’s new boys, dismantling Rovers with a seven-goal masterclass. Morgan Stavert Hawkins scored a hat trick, while Ellis Dennison, Louis Harding, Toby Gent and Ben Roberts all got on the scoresheet.
Sparta Park FC 2 – 1 Vale United FC Reserves – A close encounter, but Sparta Park did enough to edge past Premier Division Vale United Reserves, Nathan Donnelly scoring twice.
Vale Athletic FC 3 – 0 Holton Road AFC Reserves – A strong all-round performance saw Vale Athletic comfortably see off Holton Road’s reserve side. Goals from Ryan Warden, Cai Parry and Matthew Rodwell helped Athletic ease into round two.
Peterston Super Ely FC 1 – 3 Vale Madrid FC – Vale Madrid booked their spot in the next round with a solid away performance, Cory James, Elliot Jackson and Gareth Messer hitting the back of the net for Vale Madrid.
