ATLANTIC COLLEGE recently hosted Llantwit Major School’s second ‘Work Experience Awards’.
The day was organised by Mr Tomsa, the behaviour and wellbeing manager, who arranges work experience for pupils. Also present was Mrs Prescott, the assistant head of alternative provision and Mr Hall, the alternative provision manager. A number of placements attended to see the pupils be rewarded with certificates and meet their families.

Mr Dai Tomsa said: “A massive thankyou to Alan Abrahams from Atlantic College for hosting the event and allowing us to use their amazing place. Alan manages three of our work experience pupils at the college (Scott Sawyer, Tyler Sansome and Kayden Gardner) and all are doing brilliantly with his team in building maintenance. Scott is hoping to get an apprenticeship in the building industry as a result. All pupils who attended received a certificate.”
The Real Skillz directors Steve and Chris were also present to give a voucher to each Real Skillz pupil who attended. Each week up to 10 pupils work with Real Skillz every Thursday on different building projects in the area. This is supported by the Vale Council. Mason George (year 11) was awarded best worker for Real Skillz. Mason has been awarded an apprenticeship in aerospace Engineering.

Two special awards were also given out to pupils by Mr Tomsa. Macie Cook (year 10) received an award for her hard work and dedication from Alysha, who jointly owns Seaview Farm. Macie has been going to the farm for around a year. She loves working with horses and is planning to go to Agricultural College.
The other special award went to Jack Robson (year 11) who goes to Marcross Farm. Jack has been there for over a year and usually arrives come rain or shine at 6.30am to support Hopkin, Sharon, Tony and the team in whatever needs doing, usually animal maintenance. Tony and Sharon were present to give the award to Jack. Jack also aims to go to Agricultural College and has an apprenticeship on Marcross Farm next year.
Mr Tomsa said: “29 pupils have been out to different placements around Llantwit this year and have all been amazing. This has allowed the pupils to find an interest and career they want to work in and also supported their wellbeing.”
He thanked all the placements for supporting the pupils this year.
Also on hand were Stacy and her team from Swallow Nursery to have a photo with pupils Teegan and Lacy, who are both doing brilliantly with them as both want to work with children when leaving school.
