Get Back on Track for a New Start!
A wide variety of courses are available right across the Vale of Glamorgan.
THE New Year is a good time to think about making some changes, improving your skills and qualifications, look for a new job or simply to improve your confidence and self-esteem.
The Vale of Glamorgan Council Adult Community learning programme provides a wide variety of courses right across the Vale in partnership with other organisations. The Get Back on track programme offers courses which are FREE to those eligible, with subsidised fees for non-eligible learners on selected courses.
Courses take place throughout the week in Barry at both Palmerston Community Learning Centre and at the Vale Learning Centre on the first floor of the Barry Library. You can also learn at a range of venues across the Vale, including Jobcentres and libraries in Penarth and Llantwit and community centres in St Athan and Penarth
There are a wide range of Computer Skills workshops on offer with the chance to learn the digital skills that you will need for the workplace and everyday life. You can gain Agored, or ICDL Qualifications for Word, internet, excel, databases and powerpoint at all levels from basic to advanced. There are also a wide range of short courses and one day workshops including Web Design, Marketing, Canva, Artificial Intelligence, Teams, 365 and Video Creation.
New courses in Hair and Beauty, Holistic Therapies, Playwork and Childcare are an ideal stepping stone to Further Education and Training. Whether you are looking for employment or volunteering opportunities, there are a range of courses in British Sign Language, Counselling Skills, Customer Service, First Aid and Health and Safety, to give you the skills you need and enhance your CV .
Workshops for English, Maths and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) are also available at centres.
A wide range of informal Get Back on Track courses, including Woodwork, Get Cooking, Sewing and Sugarcraft, along with Grow Your Own Vegetables, will help improve your confidence and self-esteem and help you to consider your next step.
Adult Learners have said how courses have improved their confidence and health and wellbeing, and said they have made new friends, progressed to further courses and training and even helped them to gain employment.
A new programme of courses is now available for adults who require some additional support for their learning and these include Employability skills, Confidence and Volunteering, along with a new Art and Craft Leisure Course.
Get Back on Track Courses are free to those eligible with just one centre registration fee to pay at the start of the course. However, the centres are pleased to announce that from January a new subsidised course fee has been introduced. This will be especially helpful for those who are in full-time employment but wish to improve their skills for the workplace, particularly Digital Skills, BSL and Counselling.
