CHILDREN from the diversity group at Jenner Park Primary School had an unforgettable experience after receiving funding from Taith to visit Istanbul in Turkey in May.
Miss Hewett, Mr Morris and Miss Shaw accompanied 10 pupils from Nigeria, Afghanistan, India, Wales, Sri Lanka and Jamaica on the trip.
The trip gave pupils and staff the chance to explore a different culture and make new friends. During the visit, the group took part in exciting activities and visited schools and famous landmarks across Istanbul.
On the second day, the children travelled by bus to a primary school where they were welcomed with traditional Turkish music and dancing. They joined an English lesson, met new friends and enjoyed a delicious homemade Turkish lunch prepared by local families.
Later that day, the group visited a middle school and joined an art lesson. They also tasted traditional baklava before exploring a busy local bazaar and enjoyed dinner at a local restaurant.
Day three included a ferry trip to the beautiful Princes’ Islands. The children toured the island, visited a museum and enjoyed lunch beside the water. In the evening, they met members of the Adalar Children’s Orchestra, where everyone sang, danced and played games together.
During day four, the group took another ferry to visit some of Istanbul’s famous sights, including the stunning Blue Mosque. After spending time relaxing and playing in the park, the children enjoyed pizza and ice cream before an early night.
On the final day, the group travelled to the airport before flying back to London and returning home to Barry after a memorable adventure.
A school spokesperson said: “The visit was a fantastic opportunity for everyone involved, helping children and staff build confidence, learn about Turkish culture and create lasting memories.”
